Please take note of the Prophet’s (SAW) hadith in concern to the first day of Muharram.
"Whoever prays 2 rakah salah (prayer) in the first night of Muharram with Sura Al Hamd and Sura Al Ikhlas 11 times following with the intention of reciting for the 1st night of Muharram and fasts the next day (first day of Muharram) Allah will watch over he or she and his or her family until the following Muharram."
